Am I smart enough? Am I attractive enough? Do I say the right things?
Most likely, each one of us asks these questions, or others like them, regularly. Maybe even on a daily basis. It’s easy to get in a rut of questioning our worth. Most of us want to know what our place is and where we belong. It’s a constant battle to figure out if we truly are Good Enough.
Skewed View
The hardest part of knowing our worth is knowing that it has nothing to do with the world or anyone in it. Our REAL worth comes from our Father…our Heavenly one. The views others have of us or their quick opinions, really don’t matter. I know, I know…it’s easy to say. It’s tough to actually believe, though.
We live in a world with constantly changing norms, changing fashions trends, changing interests, changing “popular” views. So, how do we keep up with it all, in order to fit in? Well, we don’t!
God’s not looking for us to blend in with the world. We should be working to blend in with Jesus. To be more like Him each day, which in turn, is completely different than the world. Real Worth
So, where do we find our worth and feel more confident in who we are? Look up! Look to God, Your Heavenly Father, the one who literally designed you and knit together every single part of you. He knew you deeply, before you even entered the world. His view of you is more valuable than any thing/one is in this world.
Friends, I know it’s not easy to really believe how valuable you are. I struggle with self-worth and wondering if I’m good enough, just like everyone else. The world can really beat you down and make you feel worthless. Let’s not focus on that, though. Don’t get caught up and dwell in those vulnerable moments. When we linger too long there, we begin to really believe those lies about us.
Instead, let’s turn to God and His Word. What does it say about us? In Song of Songs it says, “You are altogether beautiful, my darling; there is no flaw in you.” (Song of Songs 4:7, NIV) This passage isn’t intended for a select few. It’s meant for ALL of us. We’re all priceless and beautiful in God’s eyes. We have “no flaw” within us, because we are created in His perfect image. Let’s start clinging to that together!
What Is Enough?
We’re constantly asking if we’re “good enough,” but what does that really mean? What is “enough” and how much approval exactly do we need? Who decides the parameters of what “enough” really is?
I think that’s where we get stuck in a never-ending cycle of disappointment and discontentment. We’re striving for something that really isn’t even there, and doesn’t have clear meaning. No amount of approval or popularity will ever really be enough. You’ll still feel a void. You’ll still be searching.
What you’re really searching for isn’t any amount of acceptance. You’re searching for real fulfillment, that only comes from God. I promise you there’s nothing as good or as valuable as living in recognition of who God is and His infinite love for you. There’s a quote from Lysa Terkeurst’s book “Uninvited,” that really speaks on living, knowing you’re loved completely by God. “Live from the abundant place that you are loved, and you won’t find yourself begging others for scraps of love.” (Lysa Terkeurst – Uninvited)
We won’t really feel loved or truly “good enough” if we continue living for the love/approval of others. That only leads to emptiness. Let’s instead fill ourselves with the love of the Lord. He says we’re more than just “good enough.” He says we’re priceless and valuable. “She is more precious than jewels; nothing you desire can equal her.” (Proverbs 3:15, CSB) God views us as His treasures. It’s time for us to embrace that truth!
Let’s cling to God’s Word and the truth He speaks about us, instead of what the world says about us. Our worth and value don’t depend on anything in this world. God should be our source of fulfillment and contentment with who we are and what we’re created to do.
You are beautiful inside and out. You’re chosen. You’re loved. You’re good enough.
