“It is not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything as coming from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God.” (2 Corinthians 3:5)
I don’t know about you, but I feel immediately humbled when I read that verse. How many times do I do exactly what it says I shouldn’t…claim my adequacy as my own. It’s easy to take credit for what we do and the successes we have in life, but God is the only one deserving of praise.
Every gift we have was given to us by God. Everything we excel, succeed or do really well in, is from God. So, let’s start giving Him more credit and glory.
Answer these questions to go along with the above scripture. Read through it multiple times and really let it sink in. Let these questions help guide you and help you digest the meaning of the verse.
- What’s something you feel really “competent” at?
- Do you feel like you use that competency to glorify God? If so, how?
- Describe a time in your life when you realized you were giving yourself too much praise for something. Did you realize your praise should be directed to God instead?
- What are some things you can do to help you remember your “adequacy is from God?”
- Spend some time telling God how thankful you are for the gifts (adequacy) He’s given you.
Give Him the glory for your story! 🙂
