Most of us have felt that unyielding sense of doubt, confusion, worry and fear over the past several months. There’s been a lot to take in.
A LOT.
If you’re like me, you’ve probably wondered if there’s possibly any more room in your mind to take in anything else. Is there any space to feel more emotions, or try to make sense of any other senseless thing happening in our world?
Are we capable of finding our way through all these obstacles and barriers set before us?
Simply put, no WE are not.
Thankfully, we have a GOD who is more than capable, and He always give us the capacity to endure what’s before us. Good, bad and everything in between.
Resist More
We have access to SO much information. Simply opening our social media apps, watching the news, reading articles and so on, are always at our disposal. It’s up to us, however, to monitor how much and what exactly we allow ourselves to take in.
There’s a difference between “educating” ourselves and filling ourselves to the brim with an immense amount of views, opinions and worldly topics. It’s important that we learn to resist more of what others say, and take in more of what God says.
Any time you feel exhausted and run-down from events in the world, turn to God’s Word. Any time you feel frustrated and angry at the views or opinions of others, turn to God’s Word. Whenever you feel doubt or uncertainty creep in, turn to God’s Word.
For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.
Romans 15:4
Turning to God’s Word is the best defense against evil, hate and misconceptions. If we want a capacity to endure whatever we face, we must turn to God’s Word above all else.
Trust More
When we resist more of what the world’s throwing at us, we can soak in more of what God is saying to us. Our hearts begin to trust more in the Lord, and we start to feel more secure.
It’s easy to trust people close to us, and feel secure in those relationships . It’s difficult, though, when they let us down and don’t quite measure up to what we expect of them. No matter how close we are to someone or how wonderful they are, they will always fall short of our trust and expectations.
But God; He is worthy of ALL our trust. He never leaves us, He never forsakes us, and He will always be a rock-steady fortress for our protection. We will go through many trials and come face-to-face with evil and ugliness in this world, but we can trust God’s goodness through it all and use His strength to navigate through it.
Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever.
Psalm 125:1
A Greater Capacity
Alone, we can’t do much or handle much without completely burning out. Our own capacity is very small, even when we think we can juggle many hats and truly “do it all.” Even with high motivation, we will continue to fall short and become “winded” when we try to endure everything on our own.
God’s capacity, however, is infinite. There is no limit to what God can handle or the amount of endurance and strength He can pass on to us. Whatever weighs on us, causes struggle for us or is simply out of our own strength, God is right there to take it all on. He can bear the weight. He can endure the challenges. He will hold us up and keep us moving through it all.
Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens.
Psalm 68:19
We must stop believing the lie that we hold all the power and can do everything on our own. We were never meant to handle the curveballs and obstacles of life in our own strength. God created us to have a dependence on Him, and that doesn’t make us weak. It just magnifies His supreme, infinite strength.
Our capacity to endure this broken world is not enough. We will feel empty, depleted, lost, depressed, etc. when we try to “go it alone.” It’s essential to turn to God, now more than ever, and rely on the strength only found in Him. With Him and through Him , we have the capacity to endure anything that comes our way in this life.
But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
Isaiah 40:31
