So, you know the Creator of the Universe…the one that literally spoke the world and everything in it into existence? You know…the one who created light out of nothing? Or, what about the one that created you and designed your very being inside your mother’s womb? Yep, that’s right! That’s all the same God. He did all of those amazing things and so much more. Do you give him the rightful recognition He deserves?
Trust me, I don’t always either! In fact, there’s been many times in my life when I’ve failed to give Him credit or recognition for just about anything. I get so swept up in my own little world and totally bypass the One who created the entire world. I take not only the things and people He’s blessed me with for granted, but God himself.
Road Blocks
What’s really holding us back from acknowledging God? Are we afraid to give Him too much credit, when we want some for ourselves? Are we afraid people will reject us and think we’re ignorant or weird? Trust me friends, following God is no easy road to take, but it’s SO worth it!
How do we get past those road blocks that constantly pop up in our way? Pray. Read Scripture. Confide in other believers. Trust in His promises. That’s my only advice. If we do those things, regularly, we will have no shame or fear in acknowledging Christ to others or giving Him the recognition for ALL He deserves.
Just like anything, our faith and relationship with God, takes work. We have to put the time in and be willing to put some sweat and tears (sometimes, literally) into it. We need endurance to keep going, and we can find that from the Holy Spirit living within us. “We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Thessalonians 1:3)
Stand Firm in Faith
Don’t be discouraged. Acknowledging God before others sounds terrifying and can make you super vulnerable. That’s good! Sometimes the best things we do in our lives, are the ones where we’re most uncomfortable. Our lives as believers are not easy. We have challenges we have to face, right and left. There’s many obstacles in our path that test our faith and make us stronger, if we allow them to.
Tackle the challenges and opposition you get from those around you with differing opinions and beliefs. Jesus surely did. He hung around the most scandalous, oppositional, “bad boy/girl” types. He wasn’t afraid to share God with them and be authentic, no matter the cost. We can never be exactlty like Jesus, but we should strive to be a little more Jesus-like, every day.
Divine Responsibility
Jesus instructs us in the gospel of Matthew to “acknowledge” Him to others. “Therefore, everyone who will acknowledge me before others, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven.” (Matthew 10:32) If we keep Jesus hidden and don’t share His love, grace and mercy with others, why should He acknowledge us? We have so much to be thankful to Him for and telling others about the great things He does, only spreads His love further. That’s a pretty spectacular thing!
Once we choose to follow after Jesus, we choose to be His disciples. We choose to spread the Word of God to others and be the “light” in this dark world. We can’t just say we’re followers of Christ, we must live and act as followers of Christ. Let’s shed our old selves, the ones filled with selfishness, insecurity, perverseness, slander, hate, etc. Let’s pick up our new self, the one living for God, when we accept Jesus into our hearts. “Anyone who finds his life will lose it, and anyone who loses his life because of me will find it.” (Matthew 10:39)
Brothers and sisters, let’s do this together! Let’s take a bold stance against the enemy, and acknowledge our Father proudly.Let’s proclaim His name and be proud that we are chosen by the King.
